John P. Thompson, age 90, of O'Fallon, Ill., born August 25, 1920 in East St. Louis, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 13, 2011.
Mr. Thompson enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and honorably served during World Way II in field artillery. He married the former Georgette Guithues on April 3, 1948 in East St. Louis, Ill. After the war he began his 33-year career as a bookkeeper for Woodson-Fennewald Commission Company at the National Stockyards in East St. Louis. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in O'Fallon. John enjoyed listening to the music of big bands and jazz musicians, and was a fan of the St. Louis Browns and St. Louis Cardinals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Anna, nee Redmond, Thompson; sisters Dorothy Bunyan, Virginia Minor, and Mary Thompson; and brother William H. Thompson, Jr.
Surviving are his wife Georgette Thompson of O'Fallon; his daughter Claire Douglas of St. Louis; and son Patrick (Mary Sue) Thompson of Des Plaines, Ill. Also surviving are six grandchildren Jennifer, Lisa, Bryan, Sarah, Patrick, and Jordan.

Visitation: Friends may call 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2011 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, O'Fallon.
Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2011, at the church, with Msgr. William J. Hitpas presiding. A luncheon will immediately follow mass in the church hall. Committal service will be at 1:30 pm, at Holy Cross Cemetery, Fairview Heights, Ill.
