Obituary

Jon Thomas Sims, age 73, of Troy, Ill., born May 2, 1941, passed away Friday morning, August 8, 2014 at the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis, Mo.

Jon enlisted in the Navy as a young man and served for 6 years as a radioman. He worked as a senior field service technician and retired from AT&T/Lucent. He also worked and retired from Emerson Network Power Systems. Jon, along with his wife, Judi, was an avid Harley-Davidson rider.

He was a member of Harley Owner's Group and the American Motorcycle Association. Due to his work, Jon relocated to Troy twenty years ago from Long Island, New York. He was a likable friend, was handy at home, and a NASCAR racing fan.

He attended St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy and was a Fourth degree Knight with Troy Knights of Columbus Council 9266. Jon and Judi enjoyed traveling and riding their motorcycles and were a wonderful example of a happily married couple.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents Robert Sims and Viola, nee Thomas, Nicoud, his brother Robert and nephew Robert Case.

Surviving are his wife Judith, nee Kline, Sims, of Troy, whom he married December 2, 1980; daughters Staci Spencer of Long Island, New York, Kimberley (Tom) Jones of New Hampshire, grandchildren Christin Spencer, Alex Spencer, Elizabeth Jones, and Rhys Jones; great grandchildren Tatiana Partridge and Alex Spencer, Jr.; and his sister Joyce Wells of Portland, Ore.

Memorials are suggested to Siteman Cancer Center, Ministries Unlimited of Troy, or in the form of Masses.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Monday, August 11, 2014 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy and from 9:00 – 9:45 am, Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at the church.

The Knights of Columbus will conduct a Chalice Service at 7:00 pm, Monday, at the church, followed by the Rosary at 8:00 pm.

Funeral Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, with Rev. Pat Jakel presiding. Burial with military honors will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Blackjack, Ill.
