Joseph T. Mulheran, age 85, of O'Fallon, born in Pittsburgh, Penn., passed away Tuesday morning, November 4, 2008 at Belleville Memorial Hospital. He attended University of Pittsburgh for a short time until his induction into the US Army Air Corps in 1943. He was trained as an aerial gunner on the B-24, where he flew 50 missions during World War II with the 456th Bomb Group in Italy. He was an expert marksman and was awarded the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. He relocated to Scott AFB near the end of the war, where he met Eleanor Rothkegel of O'Fallon. They married August 10, 1946 at St. Clare Catholic Church. They remained in O'Fallon for most of the next 60 years. Mr. Mulheran worked for Monsanto for 41 years, retiring in 1987 as Chief Chemical Operator.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Michael F. and Alice, nee Nolan, Mulheran; a brother and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; two sons, Kevin of O'Fallon and Thomas of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and his granddaughter Kate Mulheran of San Francisco, Calif.

Funeral Service: 1:30 p.m., Monday, November 10, 2008 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Von Deeke, Associate Pastor of St. Clare Catholic Church officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
