Joyce C. Zimmerman, age 79, of O'Fallon, Ill., passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. She was born April 7, 1934 in O'Fallon to the late Harry D. and Evelyn C. (nee Mantle) Greene.
Mrs. Zimmerman was a 1952 graduate of O'Fallon Township High School and was always involved in planning class reunions. She attended Washington University in St. Louis and graduated in 1956. She was active in the O'Fallon Historical Society, the O'Fallon First United Methodist Church, and also found time to volunteer at the O'Fallon Food Pantry. An accomplished seamstress, Joyce taught adult sewing classes at SWIC and enjoyed designing and fixing clothes. She was a talented artist and many of her pencil sketches, oil paintings, and other creations are scattered among family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Virgil Greene and one sister, Miriam Roe and brother-in-law, Lloyd "Bud" Roe.
She is survived by husband Roger R. Zimmerman, three sons, Kent (Stephanie) Zimmerman of Caseyville, Ill., Karl (Donna) Zimmerman of Carlyle, Ill. and Kit (Debbie) Zimmerman of O'Fallon, Ill., seven grandchildren, Josh, Kyle, Ryan, Katie, Zachary and Zoey Zimmerman and Tim Haas. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Shirley Greene of O'Fallon, Ill., and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers or other gifts, memorial donations are requested to the O'Fallon First United Methodist Church, O'Fallon Historical Society, or the Henry Mace Burial Ground Fund.
Visitation: A memorial gathering will be held from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in O'Fallon, Ill.
Funeral: Memorial Service will begin at 3:00 p. m., Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the church, with Rev. Ron Dickinson officiating.
Burial October, 19, 2013 at the historic Mace's Cemetery in O'Fallon.
