Obituary

Kathleen Diane Gross, nee Dunbar, age 60, of Shiloh, born December 16, 1948, in Belleville, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, January 5, 2009.

Mrs. Gross worked for 18 years in Customer Service at Value City, formerly Grandpa's Store, until its closing this past November. She was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church in Fairview Heights. As a 16-year member of Shiloh School Board, she was very proud to have been involved during the construction of the Shiloh Middle School. She was an avid Cardinals fan, but nothing could compare to her support and devotion to her kids' and grandkids' activities. She was loyal to their endeavors, from T-ball to basketball and more. She was a faithful wife, always giving of herself and supporting others. She loved her family and her best times were spent with them. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to area firefighters and EMS, Christ United Methodist Church, neighbors, and Cement Masons Local 90 for the aid and support shown to the Gross family following a fire that nearly destroyed their home in October 2007; with their help, the Gross family was able to restore their home and to make it a place where Kathy absolutely loved to be.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred J., nee Guttersohn, Dunbar, and her brother Curt Dunbar.

She is survived by her loving husband, Martin E. Gross, whom she married June 21, 1969; her sons, Ryan (Stacey) Gross of O'Fallon, Chad (Jaclyn) Gross of Elmwood Park, Ill; daughter Lori Gross of Shiloh; and her father, James Dunbar of O'Fallon. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren Ben, Martin, Nick, Dan, and Catherine.

Memorials in honor of Mrs. Kathleen Gross may be made to Shriner's Hospital, Christ United Methodist Church or Parkinson Disease Foundation.

Funeral: A Memorial Service will be held 6:30 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Christ United Methodist Church, 339 Frank Scott Pkwy East, Fairview Heights with Rev. Shane Bishop officiating. A meal will be served by the United Methodist Women at a reception in the fellowship hall following the service. At Kathy's request, she will be cremated.
