IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathryn
Thiess
December 19, 1924 – February 25, 2018
Kathryn Emma LaVerne Thiess, nee Davis, formerly Hall, age 93, of Edwardsville, Ill., formerly of O'Fallon, Mo., born December 19, 1924 in St. Louis, Mo., died February 25, 2018 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Ill.
Kathryn grew up in the Union Hill neighborhood of Fairview Heights, Ill., and graduated from O'Fallon Township High School. She attended Business School and worked as a secretary for the former Beck & Corbett (now Lapham-Hickey Steel Co.), retiring in the early 1990s, after which she was able to provide child care to her grandchildren.
While working at the USO during World War II, she met a young Army Air Corps member at a dance. She married Roy "Red" Hall in 1945; he preceded her in death in 1984. It was no surprise, when years later, again at a dance, she met Irvin Thiess, whom she married in 1997; he passed away in 2016.
Kathryn was an avid shopper. She loved to sing and dance, and went on national square-dancing tours with her husband Red. She was an excellent baker, and was well-known for her delicious coconut crème pie. As a devout Catholic, she had attended St. Clare Catholic Church in O'Fallon, Ill., and later All Saints Catholic Church in St. Peter's, Mo.
In addition to her husbands, she was also preceded in death by her parents John H. and Marie, nee Jensen, Davis; her son Craig Hall; her sisters Marie (Lewis) Voruz, and Luella (Harold) Moore; and her brother-in-law Donald Libell.
Surviving are her daughter Cindy (Paul) McNamara of Edwardsville; grandchildren Scott (Peggy) Hall, Sr., of Tallahassee, Fla., Chadd Hall of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Ryan (Dana) McNamara of St. Peter's, Mo., and Erin (Andrew) McNamara-Stafford of Troy, Ill.; great-grandchildren Scott Hall, Jr., Garrett Stafford and Catherine Stafford; and her sister Lorraine Libell of Fairview Heights, Ill.
Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association. Special thanks to Visiting Angels Home Care for the care and companionship they provided Kathryn.
