Laura Belle McCoy, nee Schamber, age 92, longtime resident of O'Fallon, Ill., born July 11, 1931 to Mayo and Atile, nee Naquin, Schamber in Basile, La., passed away May 1, 2024 at Mercy Rehab & Care Center, Swansea, Ill.

Laura grew up in Louisiana and met her future husband, Thomas (an O'Fallon native), who was stationed at Ft. Polk, La., while training for his deployment during the Korean War. Upon his return to the stateside in 1953, they moved to O'Fallon where they raised their children. Laura was a longtime member at St. Clare Catholic Church and the Altar Sodality. She loved to cook her family's traditional Cajun dishes and enjoyed camping at Wappapello Lake, Carlyle Lake, and Crab Orchard Lake. For nearly 30 years, Laura worked as a designer for area residential developers. After retirement in 1987, she and Thomas began to spend winters in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. Together, they loved to travel and Laura especially enjoyed taking cruises.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas in 1997; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Surviving are her children Debbie (Keith) Davidson of Nipomo, Calif., Jeffrey (Laurie) McCoy of O'Fallon, and Patrick McCoy and family of St. Charles, Mo.; grandchildren Robb (Heather) Davidson, of Oakton, Va., Linzy Davidson of W. Hollywood, Calif., and Nick McCoy of Belleville; great-grandchildren Mila and Riley Davidson, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her dog Bailey.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 pm, Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon. A memorial service will begin at 6 pm, with Msgr. William McGhee officiating. Private Interment with the family in attendance will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
