Obituary

Leo William Lickenbrock, age 90, of O'Fallon, born November 23, 1922, in St. Libory, Illinois, passed away Tuesday evening, August 27, 2013, following a brief illness.

Mr. Lickenbrock was a long-time faithful parishioner at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, and charter member of O'Fallon Knights of Columbus Council #4239. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, O'Fallon Senior Citizens, and the O'Fallon Sportsmen's Club. The founder of Lickenbrock Blacksmithing and Welding, a long-standing family business in O'Fallon since 1946, Leo was a self-employed welder until his retirement in 1984. His wife kept the books and his three sons have all worked with their dad at Lickenbrock and Sons, Inc.

Leo enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting, and took great pride in his well-manicured lawn and his vegetable garden. He was part of the Greatest Generation, serving his country well as an Army veteran of World War II, with European tours in Northern France.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene, nee Muckensturm, whom he married September 21, 1943, and who died July 12, 2011; his parents Leo C. and Caroline A., nee Middendorf, Lickenbrock; his brothers Harold (Ruth) Lickenbrock, George Lickenbrock; and his sisters Dorothy (Norb) Friederich, and Ruth Lickenbrock.

Surviving are his sons, James (Linda) Lickenbrock of Mascoutah, Gary (Mary) Lickenbrock of O'Fallon, and Craig (Nancy) Lickenbrock of O'Fallon.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Carolyn (Wayne) Haas of Mascoutah, Susan Lickenbrock of O'Fallon, Matthew (Ashley) Lickenbrock of St. Charles, Mo., David (Lauren) Lickenbrock of Chicago, Ill., Robby Lickenbrock of O'Fallon,
and Michael Lickenbrock of O'Fallon; and four great-grandchildren, Justin Haas, Jacob and Madeline Lickenbrock, and Owen Lickenbrock; and sister-in-law Rosemary Lickenbrock.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Friday, August 30, 2013 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon, with The Senior Citizens Club of O'Fallon conducting a service at 6:30 pm.

Visitation will resume at 9:30 am, Saturday, August 31, 2013 at St Clare Catholic Church.

Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Saturday, August 31, 2013 at St. Clare Catholic Church, with Rev. James Deiters presiding. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Ill.
