Lester A. "Andy" Anderson, age 92, of O'Fallon, born July 5, 1914 in Milford, Illinois died Sunday, November 26, 2006 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. Andy was a World War II veteran of the US Army Air Corps. He was a member of Mascoutah VFW Post #7682 having served as Commander 1952-53. He was also a member of O'Fallon American Legion Post #137 and O'Fallon Sportsmen's Club. He retired from Civil Service in 1974.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, nee Luettinger; his parents, August and Clara Anderson; four brothers, Edwin, Russell, Carl, and August, and five sisters, Gladys, Helen, Gertrude, Dorothy, and Lillian, son-in-law Ray "Shorty" Short.
Surviving are his two daughters, Celeste Short, and Carolyn (Kenneth) Scheibel of O'Fallon; six grandchildren: Steven (Ute) Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Stacey (David) Gerdes, Audrey Fullerton, Clayton (Rebecca) Scheibel, and Carrie (Jay) Jenkins; 13 great-grandchildren: Denise Vega, Justin Donato, Marrissa Johnson, Matthew Lane, Sarah, Amber, Christopher and Tyler Gerdes, Nicole (Jason) Wilson, Garrett Fullerton, Jacob and Riley Scheibel, and Nolan Jenkins; and two great-great-granddaughters, Ashley Vega and Octavia Wilson. Andy is also survived by brothers, John and Syd Anderson of Milford, Ill.; sisters Mary Anderson of Milford and Evelyn (George) Halloran of Sun City, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Verna Weil, Esther Luettinger, and Vivian Anderson and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or the charity of the donor's choice.
The family would like to express special thanks to Bohannon Care Center, Heartland Hospice, and the 6th floor nursing staff of St. Elizabeth's Hospital for the compassion and care they provided.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 28 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon.
Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 29 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home with Reverend Walter Gerth officiating. Interment at Summerfield Cemetery; Summerfield, Illinois.
