Obituary
Lewis N. Voruz, age 96, of Swansea, born February 4, 1919 in Highland, Ill., passed away February 4, 2015 at his home at Bradford Place, Swansea, Ill., while family was present.
As a child, Lewis grew up in Highland, Ill., graduating from Highland High School, class of 1937. Lewis met his future wife at a local dance and they were married for 71 years. He was a long time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in East St. Louis, Ill., Holy Cross Church Fairview Heights, Ill., and was a current member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in O'Fallon, Ill., where he was active & enjoyed the church.
Lewis served in the Army during WWII at Fort Knox as a Tech Sergeant tank mechanic. He retired from Monsanto in Sauget Ill., having worked 39 years as a pipefitter and instrument man. As a licensed plumber, he also taught plumbing.
Lewis was a member of the Moose Lodge in Swansea, Ill., where he & Marie enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing. Lewis was also an avid wood worker & will be fondly remembered as a master of all trades, helping family & friends with construction or mechanical projects.
Mr. Voruz was preceded in death by his wife Marie, nee Davis, Voruz, who died August 16, 2012; parents Theodore Voruz & Elodie, nee Quinn, Voruz; brothers Martin Voruz, Cecil Voruz, and sisters Ruth Wells, Esther Wolbert, and Grace Landert.
Surviving are his children, Robert (Janet) Voruz of Weed Calif., Donald (Dianna) Voruz of St. Jacob Ill., Judith Voruz of Ashland, Ore., Martin (Michelle) Voruz of Fairview Heights, Ill., sister Jessamine Lajeunesse of Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren Timothy, Sean, Nicole, and Fleur; and six great grandchildren Ethan, Victoria, Angelique, Alexis, Olivia & Siena.
Memorial donations are suggested to St. Michael's Episcopal Church O'Fallon, Ill.
Visitation: Friends may call from 10:00 am – 11:00am, Friday, February 6, 2015 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 111 O'Fallon Troy Rd., O'Fallon.
Funeral: 11:00 am, Friday, February 6, 2015 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, O'Fallon, with Rev. Ian Wetmore presiding.
Graveside: Procession will depart Wolfersberger Funeral Home at 8:15 am, Monday, February 9, 2015 for committal services at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis County, Mo.
