Loretta C. Belsheim, nee Lehmann, age 91, of Ballwin, Mo., formerly of O'Fallon, Ill., born April 20, 1918 in Geneva, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 5, 2010.
Mrs. Belsheim grew up in Iowa, attending school in Hampton. Upon graduation, she continued on, earning her nursing degree. She later enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo., where she received her B.A. and M.Ed. Although nursing and teaching were her choices of career, her true vocation was that of a minister's wife. For many years, she supported her husband, Rev. Harold G. Belsheim, as he pastored at various locations within the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. Rev. and Mrs. Belsheim lived in O'Fallon in the mid-1990s, when they relocated to Ballwin, Mo. There, she attended St. John Lutheran Church in Ellisville, Mo., with her daughter, Charlotte.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John and Louisa, nee Thies, Lehmann, Sr., brother John and sisters Lena and Hilda.
Mrs. Belsheim is survived by her three children, Charlotte (John) Hastings of Ballwin, Mo., Harold (Deb) Belsheim of O'Fallon, Ill., and David (Leslie) Belsheim of St. Charles, Ill.
Also surviving are her nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Hastings, Brian Hastings, Sarah (Ivan) Acosta, Catherine Belsheim, Ryan Holland, Chad (Marcie) Holland, Julie (Clayton) Buchner, Jonathan Belsheim, Michael Belsheim; and four great-grandchildren, Brooke, Nathan, Peyton, and Joy.
Memorial Donations in honor of Mrs. Belsheim are suggested to Memorial Hospital Foundation, 4500 Memorial Dr., Belleville, IL 62226, or Missouri Baptist Hospice, 9890 Clayton Rd., St. Louis, MO 63124. Donations will also be accepted at the funeral home.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon, Ill. and from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church, 15808 Manchester Rd., Ellisville, Missouri.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church, Ellisville, Mo., with Pastor Ron Schuette officiating.
Graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m., at O'Fallon City Cemetery, O'Fallon, Ill., with Pastor Ron Dickinson officiating.
