Obituary

Lorreine Cryder Horenkamp, 95, of O'Fallon, Illinois, born November 6, 1911, in Sugar Creek Township, Clinton County, Illinois died Monday, March 12, 2007.

Lorreine was the oldest of six children born to Ada, nee Patton, and Joe Cryder of Trenton, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank Horenkamp, whom she married June 4, 1936, her sister Hazel Cryder, brothers Bob, Dave, and John Cryder, sister-in-law Bernice Cryder, and brother-in-law Leland Smith.

She is survived by her three sons: Kenneth (Mary) Horenkamp of Annapolis, Maryland; Dr. Norman (JoAnn) Horenkamp of Trenton, Illinois; Dr. Robert (Connie) Horenkamp of Bloomington, Illinois; grandchildren Mary Alice, John, Paul, Lisa, Mark, Lorrei, Tom, Marissa; great-grandchildren Ellie and Sam; sister Ada Smith of Fairview Heights; sisters-in-law Bea Cryder of O'Fallon and Dorothy Cryder of Trenton.

Mrs. Horenkamp was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church, O'Fallon. Her teaching career included Sharon School, a one-room schoolhouse in Trenton; Union Grove; Summerfield; O'Fallon; as well as Scott Air Force Base. Mrs. Horenkamp also served as principal of Pontiac School for 3 years. In 1953 at age 42, Lorreine graduated magna cum laude from McKendree College. Her last 19 years of teaching were spent in the first grade at Henry Raab School in Belleville, retiring in 1973 after 36 years of teaching. She played piano in the O'Fallon Kitchen Band and helped entertain at nursing homes.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Heartland Hospice or Henry Raab School.


Visitation: Friends may call 4 – 8 p.m., Friday, March 16, 2007 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon.

Funeral Service: Procession will depart the funeral home at 9:45 a.m., Saturday for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Clare Catholic Church, O'Fallon, with Rev. James Deiters presiding.

Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Aviston, Illinois.
