Louise Rose Schwaegel, age 75, of O'Fallon, born August 24, 1937 on the O'Fallon family farm, passed away Tuesday evening, July 23, 2013.
Ms. Schwaegel was born and raised in O'Fallon, and graduated from OTHS in 1955. She attended Belleville Junior College and soon began her lengthy teaching career as a young woman at St. Clare Catholic School, where she taught until 1962. Meanwhile, she furthered her own education at St. Louis University, earning her BS in Geography & Philosophy. In 1965, she began teaching at the Catholic grade school in Damiansville, and her infuence there spanned the next 30 years. She continued her work with area children, managing the before-and-after programs at Central School, Belleville YMCA, and St. Clare School until her retirement in 2001. She was a former member of St. Clare Catholic Church and the ladies altar sodality. She was a long-time volunteer cook at Camp Ondessonk, a member of Fr. Karban's scripture class, a member of FOSIL, and Jolly Seniors at Corpus Christi Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Magdalene, nee Huschle, Schwaegel; her brothers and sisters-in-law Myron (Rita, nee Zacharski) Schwaegel, Joseph (Rita, nee Lanter) Schwaegel, Cyril (Ruth, nee Wagner) Schwaegel; sister and brother-in-law Kathryn (Daniel) Sullivan; sister in law Rosalie, nee Wittman, Schwaegel; niece Rita, nee Biver, Schwaegel; great-nephew Daniel Solis, and great-niece Amy Schwaegel.
Surviving are her nieces and nephews, Michael (Amy) Schwaegel, Judy (Dale) Biver, Patricia (Roberto) Solis, Thomas (Colene) Schwaegel, Teresa (Ed) Votrain, Mary Beth Schwaegel, JoAnn (Craig) Pickett, Margaret (John) Stice, Elaine (Barry) Pultman, Carol Schwaegel, Steve Schwaegel, Susan (John) Mavis, and Barb Schwaegel, many other loving extended family members, including Esther Reardon and Happy Touchette and special friends Liz Klingler and Judy Meier.
Memorial donations are suggested to St. Clare Catholic School, FOSIL (Faithful of S. Illinois), or the charity of donor's choice.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon. A Prayer Service will begin at 7:30 pm., Wednesday.
Funeral: Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 2, 2013, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 205 Rasp St., Shiloh, with Msgr. James Margason presiding, and Reverends Roger Karban and Jim Dougherty concelebrating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Ill.
