Marcellus George "Bud" Beaston, age 90, of Shiloh, Ill., born October 20, 1923 in St. Louis, Mo., passed away Sunday morning, December 29, 2013 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Bud retired as a Foreman with Illinois Power (Ameren). He was an active parishioner at Corpus Christi Catholic Church for many years and participated in many ministries and activities, to include chicken dinners and pancake breakfasts. He also was a greeter, usher, and lector and sang in the choir. In his younger years, he was an avid motorcyclist. He enjoyed camping with his family and travelling. Bud was a self-taught musician, and was well-known in the area for playing the harmonica. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was an avid golfer, with TWO holes-in-one to his credit. Bud played the role of Santa Claus in Lebanon for many years and will be remembered for his hospitality and kindness.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Marie, nee Drovetta, Beaston, whom he married February 26, 1949, and who passed away July 5, 2011; his parents George H. Beaston and Catherine, nee Kern, Beaston-Harden; stepfather Earl Harden, his sister Doris (Norm) Martin, and his brother Fred Beaston.
Surviving are his three sons Charles Gerard (Jeanie) Beaston of Parkesburg, Pa., James Michael (Kathy) Beaston of Tamarac, Fla., and John Curtis (fiancé Dana Heyde) Beaston of Shiloh; granddaughters Mandy Schaeffer and Angela Beaston; and great-grandchildren Tyler James Schaeffer, Kaiden, Liam, and Teghan Ward; his half-brother Mike Beaston and his sister-in-law Marilyn Beaston.
Memorials are suggested to Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh.
Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the church, with Msgr. James Margason presiding.
Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014 at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Lebanon, Ill.
