Obituary

Margie P. Brown, nee Pickering, age 91, of Belleville, formerly of Shiloh, born March 30, 1917 in Cope, South Carolina, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her loving and devoted friends and family. Mrs. Brown came to the area when her husband was stationed at Scott AFB. Upon his retirement in 1963, they moved to Montgomery, Alabama for a short while, then returned to the area, eventually making Shiloh their home. Margie attended Anderson College in Anderson, S. Carolina, graduating cum laude. Margie was a talented seamstress and enjoyed gardening and yardwork. She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Belleville, contributing to the bulletin boards and helping in the church library. Mrs. Brown was a fun-loving lady; she was strong-willed and adapted to being independent due to her husband's military assignments away from home. She loved to travel and, on her own, amassed over 60,000 miles in her RV.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt Col Tom Anderson Brown, USAF (retired) whom she married July 1, 1939 and who passed away April 29, 1986; her parents Francis Hubert and Lou Ella Irene, nee Williamson, Pickering; sisters Frances Pickering and Doris Vedare; and brothers Hubert W. Pickering and Milam Ordell Pickering.

She is survived by her three sons Tom Anderson Brown, Jr. of Belleville, Benjamin R. "Rick" (Roberta) Brown of Belleville, Lawrence Wilton (Teresa) Brown of Vero Beach, Fla; five grandchildren, Maj. Anthony Thomas Brown, USAF, of Nebraska, Kathryn Nicole Schuh of O'Fallon, Mo., Jenny (Steve) Robinson of Belleville, Angie (Joe Phillips) Brown of Belleville, and Rebecca Lynn Brown of Fla., and nine great grandchildren.
