Marie Irene Moore, nee Merrill, age 92, of East St. Louis, Ill. Born November 8, 1931 in Omaha, Neb., passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024.

She was the devoted wife of the late Rev. James T. Moore, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Moore was a longtime active member of the Bethel AME Church in Madison, Ill. where she was a former member of the Senior Choir, Steward and Class Leader, and was involved in Church Women United, where she was honored as the "Valiant Woman of the Year" in 2017. She became a Torchlighter through the 4th District Women's Missionary Society and was also a member of the Ophelia Newsome Women's Missionary Society at church.

Mrs. Moore had a long career in the accounting department at St. Louis Children's Hospital and was a record keeper for AARP while volunteering for adult literacy at SWIC. Mrs. Moore enjoyed her friends at her most recent residence, Cambridge House in O'Fallon, Ill. where she attended bible study regularly.

Alongside her husband Rev. James T. Moore she is preceded in death by her step-son Ralph Moore, step-daughter Ola White, and nephew Walter L. Davis, III.

She leaves to cherish her memories grandchildren, Mildred McGhee, Little Rock, Ark., Karen (Keith) Wilson, Atlanta, Ga., Robert Cloird, Columbus, Ga., Tina Knight, Bruce Cloird, and James Cloird all of Little Rock, Ark., nieces Alice (Melvin) Wiley, and Carolyn Green, and her family of O'Fallon, Ill.; and cousins Dr. Cynthia Newsome, and Rodney Hardiman, Omaha, Neb., 14 great-grandchildren, 30 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral will begin at 11 am, Monday, July 1, 2024 at Bethel AME Church, 1035 Market St., Madison, Ill., with Rev. Pierce Harper, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens of Memory in Millstadt, Ill.
