Marie C. Voruz, nee Davis, age 93, of Swansea, born November 30, 1918 in New Mexico, passed away August 16, 2012, at home at Bradford Place, while her husband of 71 years was holding her hand.
As a child, Marie grew up in O'Fallon, graduating from OTHS Class of 1937. Meeting her future husband at a local dance, they continued ballroom dancing over the next 70 years. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in E. St. Louis, and later St. Michael's Episcopal Church in O'Fallon, where she was active and enjoyed the church family. She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Swansea, and embraced international travel, enjoying many exciting trips with her husband. She was a dedicated den mother to many scouts over the years, and will be fondly remembered for opening her doors to neighborhood kids.
Mrs. Voruz was preceded in death by her parents John Howard Davis and Marie, nee Jensen Davis, and her sister Louella Moore.
Surviving are her husband Lewis N. Voruz, of Swansea; her children Robert (Janet) Voruz of Weed, Calif., Donald (Dianna) Voruz of St. Jacob, Ill., Martin (Michelle) Voruz of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Judith Voruz of Carlton, Ore.; four grandchildren, Timothy, Sean, Nicole, and Fleur; four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Angelique, Ethan, and Victoria. Also surviving are two sisters, Lorraine Libell of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Kathryn Thiess of O'Fallon, Mo.
Memorial donations are suggested to St. Michael's Episcopal Church, O'Fallon, Ill.
Visitation: Friends may call from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 20, 2012 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 111 O'Fallon Troy Rd., O'Fallon, Ill.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 20, 2012 at the church, with Rev. Ralph McMichael officiating. Following the service, lunch will be served at the church. Procession will depart at 1:30 for interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
