Obituary

Marilyn Sue Wilkin, nee Brewer, age 70, of O'Fallon, passed away May 5, 2011 in an automobile accident that also claimed the life of her twin sister Carolyn Jean Bromley.

Marilyn was employed for over 30 years at Belleville Memorial Hospital, where she was the House Supervisor for the night shift. She was well-respected and loved and although she was a devoted worker, it never seemed like "work" since her care and concern for people was genuine. She was a devoted caregiver and loved her ministry of nursing. She was easily recognized around the hospital, always smiling, wearing her lab jacket covered with lapel pins consisting of a variety of angels' wings, the American flag, cancer survivor pins, her 30-year Memorial Hospital pin, and her alma mater, the University of Dayton. She earned her Nursing Certificate from Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, her RN degree from University of Dayton, and her management degree from Webster University.

She was as an Air Force Nurse during the Vietnam War, proudly serving her country with the 807th Medical Group. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, O'Fallon.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Brewer.

Surviving are her husband Stephen Wilkin, Lt. Col., USAF (retired), of O'Fallon, whom she married February 19, 1966 in Dayton, Ohio; her daughter Teresa (Joseph) Wilkin-Shell of Fairview Heights, Ill., her son, Stephen Wilkin of O'Fallon; her mother Dorothy, nee Gnau, Brewer of Dayton, Ohio; her brother Richard (Karen) Brewer of Cleveland, Ohio; and her especially dear friend, who was considered like a daughter, Jane Edgar of Belleville, Ill.

In lieu of flowers and other gifts, memorial donations are suggested to Belleville Memorial Hospital Foundation, 4500 Memorial Drive, Belleville, IL 62226 or St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 625 St. Nicholas Dr., O'Fallon, IL 62269.
