Martin Joseph Schmidt, age 74, born February 12, 1935 in Belleville, passed away February 1, 2010.

Marty worked for Weyerhaeuser Company in Belleville for 44 years, retiring in 1997. Soon realizing he wasn't ready for retirement, he began work at St. Clair Country Club, where he continued for 12 years. He was a veteran of the US Army Reserves.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence Charles Schmidt and Margaret Marie Delaney Schmidt; two brothers James and Larry Schmidt; his sister Kathleen Emig; his daughter Susan Schmidt; and grandson Sean Pegram.

Marty is survived by his wife of 30 years, Martha Lou Burrow-Schmidt, children Mark Schmidt, Robin Schmidt, Richard (Debbie) Burrow, Mary (Ken) Sharkey, Tom (Lisa) Burrow, Stella (Garry) Rains, and Maria Haider; and his sister Rosemary Bethard.

Also surviving are many loved grandchildren, Shane Pegram, Brittany (Schmidt) Norbeck, Kristin King, Kayla King, Ed King IV, Bryan (Karin) Burrow, Benjamin (Lisa) Burrow, Brooke Burrow, Destiny Burrow, Erin Sharkey, Bridget (Ben Elson) Sharkey, Nolan Sharkey, Christopher Burrow, Jason Burrow, Tiffany (Derek) Kirby, Justin (Jennifer) Rains, Matthew Rains, Sarah Haider, Kevin Haider, Kyle Haider; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Cameron King, Ava Mae Pegram, Skylar, Kaydence and Alexis Burrow, Ethan, Brayden and Chase Kirby, and Taylor Rains.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Siteman Cancer Center, 660 S. Euclid, Box 8100, St. Louis, MO 63110. As per Marty's wishes, his body was generously donated to Washington University School of Medicine for medical research.

Private family services will be held.
