Obituary

MSgt Marvin Edwin Chaffin, (USAF, retired), age 49, of Highland, formerly of O'Fallon, born July 18, 1958 in Pevely, Mo., passed away Saturday, December 15, 2007 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Clinton County. Marvin was a US veteran, retiring from the Air Force in 1996, earning the rank of Master Sergeant. While on active duty, he was a fuel maintainer for the F-15 Eagle for over 15 years. He then retrained as an Automated Functional Applications Analyst/Monitor and served in this capacity until his military retirement. His many awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and Kuwait Liberation Medal. Currently, Marvin was employed as a system administrator for Nortel Government Solutions, at Scott Air Force Base. He had recently moved to Highland, Ill., where he attended St. Paul Catholic Church. Marvin was president of the Filipino-American Association in O'Fallon and was employed at Southwest Illinois College since 1994 as an adjunct faculty member in the Business Division, where he taught in the Computer Information Systems program. Marvin's friends and colleagues will remember him as a kind and caring man and he will be greatly missed.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Henry Chaffin and two brothers, Harold & Larry Chaffin.

He is survived by his wife, Grace (nee Del Rosario) Chaffin, of Highland, three sons, Marine SSgt Edwin (Nereida) Chaffin, currently serving in Japan, Andrew (dear friend Melanie Glauber) of St. Louis, formerly of O'Fallon; Air Force Amn Jonathan (Julie) Chaffin, currently serving at Dyess Air Force Base, Tex.; three grandchildren Nevia, Nadia, and Edwin, Jr. Marvin is also survived by his mother, Esther H. (nee Coates) Chaffin of Gatewood, Mo., brother George (Tammy) Chaffin of St. Charles, Mo, and two sisters Joanna (Larry) Hoene of Sigel, Ill., Norma Palazzolo of Racine, Wisc., and dear friends Bob and Helen Greynolds & their children Ryan and Kristina, of Oxfordshire, England.

Memorial Donations in honor of MSgt Marvin Chaffin are requested to the family, to be used toward the ongoing care and recovery of Marvin's wife, Grace, who was seriously injured in the accident.

Visitation: Friends may call from 10:00 am until Noon, Thursday, December 20, 2007 at St. Clare Catholic Church, 1411 Cross Street, Shiloh, Ill. All visitation and services will be at the church.

Funeral Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon, Thursday, December 20, 2007 at St. Clare Catholic Church, with Rev. James Deiters presiding.

Cremation will take place following all services.

Interment of Cremated Remains for Marvin and Grace Chaffin will be 10:15 am, Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo., with full military honors for him.
