Mary Margaret Cappello, nee Rust, age 45, of Freeburg, born June 1, 1972 in Belleville, Ill., passed away January 20, 2018 under the care of her family and BJC Hospice, at Evelyn's House, Creve Coeur, Mo.

Mary grew up in O'Fallon and graduated from OTHS in 1990. She earned her undergraduate degree at McKendree University and her graduate degree at Lindenwood University, and was pursuing her doctorate. Mary was a math teacher at Cahokia School District's Seventh Grade Academy. She had been employed there for 16 years. Mary was an avid 5K runner, had competed in a triathalon, and was an active participant in Tough Mudder obstacle and challenge courses. Mary was a faithful member of Blessed Savior Lutheran Church in O'Fallon.

Surviving are her husband Charles W. "Chad" Cappello, Jr., whom she met on a blind date and later married June 16, 2012 at Blessed Savior Lutheran Church; her children Stephanie (fiance Gregory Yep) Mabry, Andrew Mabry; parents Christopher and Sandra, nee Beers, Rust; brothers Jonathan and Jason Rust; nephew Brandon Rust; aunts and uncles August and Pam Melching, Bill and Maria Beers, Tommie Miller, Shirley and David Harland; parents-in-law Charles and Lynn Cappello, Sr., and her two cats Bleach and Roxy.

She was preceded in death by her brother Christopher Derrick Rust, grandmother Ida Melching, and grandparents Bill and Betty Beers.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Blessed Savior Lutheran Church for a memorial to be established or to O'Fallon Parks & Recreation Foundation.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon.

Funeral: 10:30 am, Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Blessed Savior Lutheran Church, 1205 N. Lincoln St., O'Fallon, Ill. with Pastor Vern Lintvedt officiating. Burial to follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St Louis County, Mo.
