Mary Jane Charney, nee Kokotovich, age 89, of O'Fallon, born May 3, 1927 in Fairmont City, Ill., died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Heritage at the Colonnade, O'Fallon, Ill.

Ms. Charney was a long time former member of Holy Rosary parish in Fairmont City. She graduated in 1944 from St. Theresa Academy, East St. Louis. For many years, she worked for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, retiring in 1990.

She was preceded in death by her parents Matt and Kate Kokotovich; and her sister Helen Mooney.

Surviving are her son Denny Charney of Bergland, Mich., five sisters Elsie Kokotovich of O'Fallon, Kay (Premo) Clay of Granite City, Charlotte Sobol of Clermont, Fla., Barbara Alvarez of Collinsville, Ill., and Toni Kokotovich of Collinsville, Ill.; daughter-in-law Peggy Redemeier Charney of Champaign, Ill.; grandchildren David and Amanda Charney of Champaign, Ill., and Christine Charney Walker of Springfield, Ill.; great-grandchildren Kara Charney, Nathan Charney, and Rhodry Walker; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial donations are suggested in the form of masses or to Shriner's Hospital for Children and may be sent to the funeral home.

Mary generously gifted her body to St. Louis University School of Medicine.

Funeral: The family is coordinating a Memorial Mass to be celebrated at 10 am, Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fairmont City, Ill., with Rev. David Wilke presiding. A luncheon will follow at Koke's Tavern in Fairmont City.
