Obituary

Mary Jane Garnto, nee Yates, age 72, of O'Fallon, born November 19, 1950 in Colquitt, Ga., passed away April 13, 2023 at Liberty Village Care Center, Maryville, Ill.

Mary Jane was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and the O'Fallon Woman's Club; she was actively involved in both for many years. She loved cruising and travelled the world with her husband's Naval career. She was an expert Bridge player and enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hilton and Evelyn, nee Norell, Yates; and her sister Patricia Yates Compton.

She is survived by her beloved husband Sterling Garnto of O'Fallon; her son Jarrod Garnto and his wife Kendra, of Troy; and her beloved grandchildren, whom she doted on, Zachary Lindow, Jarrod Garnto, Meta Jane Garnto, and Nina Grace Garnto; her brother James T. Yates of Albany, Ga., and brother-in-law Wendell (Maxine) Garnto of Dublin, Ga.

Memorial donations are suggested to the charity of one's choice.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 625 St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with Msgr. William J. Hitpas presiding. The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 11 am, at the church. Burial will follow at O'Fallon City Cemetery, O'Fallon, Ill.

Wolfersberger Funeral Home has been entrusted with her care.
