Maurice William Fohne, age 93, lifelong resident of O'Fallon, Ill., born July 8, 1925 in O'Fallon, passed away August 30, 2018 at his home at The Colonnade of O'Fallon.

Maurice grew up in O'Fallon and for many years farmed the area off of Seven Hills Road. As a young man, he was a bouncer at the roller skating rink in Troy. He was a member of St. Paul UCC in Lebanon and the St. Clair County Farm Bureau. He was a former member at O'Fallon (E & R) UCC, where he was past president of the Consistory. In the 1950s, he owned a Standard Service Station in present-day Swansea. In his retirement years, he and his wife enjoyed woodworking together and making crafts. Always smiling, Mr. Fohne loved dancing and spending time with his family, and he especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years Carol, nee Gaffner, Fohne, whom he married May 19, 1945, and who passed away October 22, 2009; his parents William and Pearl, nee Bernhardt, Fohne; his grandson Stephen Maurice Shaffer; sister Rosella (Virgil) Sedlacek; and sisters/brothers-in-law Bette and Jackie Smith, and William "Bill" Gaffner.

Surviving are his daughters JoAnn Shaffer of Lebanon, Donna (John) Adolphson of St. Louis, granddaughters Barbara (John Albers) Shaffer of Lebanon, and Tracy (Matt) Heath of St. Peters, Mo., great-grandchildren Suzanne (Steven) Pohlman, Benjamin Shaffer, Amy, Michael, Jessica, and Haley Heath; sister-in-law Joan Gaffner, several nieces and nephews, and his dear friend Agnes Grodecki of Fairview Heights.

Memorial donations are suggested to either St. Paul UCC or Hospice of Southern Illinois, and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon, Ill., and after 9 am, Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the funeral home.

Funeral: 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Don Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at O'Fallon City Cemetery.
