Maurice Arnold Hibbs, age 98, of Glen Carbon, formerly of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 21, 2008 in Maryville, Illinois.
He was born September 12, 1909 near Enid, Oklahoma, the son of the late John Loren and Eva Hibbs. The family moved to Kansas and then to several towns in Iowa until they settled in Des Moines in 1918. Maurice graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines and briefly attend the University of Iowa.
He married Esther E. Lefevre, who preceded him in death in 1965. In 1966 he married Genevieve Alice Johnson Brown, who preceded him in death in 2005. His sister, Helen Burns, also preceded him in death.
He is survived by a daughter, Pamela Hibbs Decoteau and her husband John "Jack", and two granddaughters, Liza Decoteau and her husband, Alex Hertich, and Claire Decoteau and her partner, Andy Clarno; and great-granddaughter, Mirabelle Decoteau-Hertich.
Mr. Hibbs held numerous jobs that allowed him to drive and travel, including long-distance truck hauling, and as a railroad caboose crewman. After retiring from a lengthy carer with Delavan Manufacturing in West Des Moines, he drove a bus for West Des Moines schools and also drove a tractor at the Living History Farm. He was a member of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church.
All services will be private. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines, Iowa.
