IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melvin Dean
Six
December 22, 1962 – April 23, 2018
Melvin Six, 55, of Fairview Heights, Ill. changed his permanent residence to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, April 23, 2018. Melvin passed very peacefully in his home with his wife, Cheryl, by his side, after a long time battle with ALS/FTD. Melvin Dean Six was born December 22, 1962 in Moline, Ill. to Donald and Donna Six, and was the eldest of five children. Mel was born and raised in Moline, Ill., graduating with the class of 1981.
On June 27, 1987, Mel married the love of his life, and best friend, Cheryl Lynne (nee Sheridan) in Moline, and moved to San Antonio, Texas where he worked in sales. He later graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering in 1995. After graduating, he resided in Washington, Mo., for eight years, where he worked for Sporlan valve company as a sales engineer before working for the Department of the Army as a Civil Servant Engineer, in McAlester, Oklahoma for five years. He then transferred to the Military Surface and Deployment and Distribution Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
Mel was extremely intelligent and kind; he loved to share his knowledge with others. Whether it was fixing or installing things, or learning new computer programs, he could figure it out, and was very happy to help others.
He enjoyed his small group Bible study up until the day he passed, and was a member of Christ Church, Fairview Heights, Ill. He loved running the church sound systems before his debilitating disease took that away. He also enjoyed rehabilitating and fostering dogs with the St. Louis American Eskimo Rescue Society for many years.
Melvin had a passion for competition and enjoyed playing cards, Risk, cribbage, and Monopoly with his many friends, family, and especially his lifetime friends, Kerry Dunn of Green Bay, Wisc., and Patrick Devinney of Moline, Ill. Mel also loved being outside working on the yard and plants and playing golf with his friends and coworkers. He also loved playing basketball and croquet with his family, including his many nieces and nephews. Mel loved music, NASCAR, St. Louis Cardinals, and all things Green Bay Packers! Mel and Cheryl loved cruising the Caribbean, vacationing in Hawaii, and sightseeing across the United States.
Melvin is survived by his wife Cheryl, and his beloved dogs Pearl and Chico. A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering is planned for a future date.
His final resting place will be in Moline/Rock Island, Ill.
