Michael Gene Vielweber, age 70, of Fayetteville, Ill., born April 26, 1951 in Belleville, died December 17, 2021 at Memorial Hospital, Shiloh, Illinois.
Mike joined the US Army as a young man, immediately after earning his high school diploma from Oak Technical High School, in Oakland, Calif. In 2011, Mike retired from the former E.M. Wiegmann Co., in Freeburg, where he worked for many years as a metal fabricator. Mike had a great sense of humor and loved to cook and barbecue ribs.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lester G. Vielweber and Doris, nee Stoll, Vielweber-Weekley; his sister Diann Hassler, his son Jon Vielweber, and his nephew Gary Lee Vielweber.
Survivors include his daughter JoAnne (Jeffrey) Gagen, two granddaughters, and a great-grandson; siblings Vicki (Eddie) Hill, Jerry (Mary) Vielweber, Jane (Simon) Dickhaut, Dennis (Bonnie) Vielweber, Nancy (Bill) Welker, Gary (Darla) Vielweber, Rodger (Brenda) Vielweber, and Lester (DeeDee) Vielweber, Jr., and many nieces and nephews, including his special niece and caregiver Casey Biancur.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Catholic War Veterans Post 370, 3535 S. Route 159, Freeburg, IL 62243, with much appreciation for their efforts to build a wheelchair ramp for Mike at his home.

Friends and family may gather at Wolfersberger Funeral Home beginning at 1 pm, December 30, 2021. Funeral procession will depart at 1:45 pm, for a Graveside Service with military honors to be held at 2:30 pm, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Chaplain Doug Stewart will officiate.
