Obituary

Mildred E. Meinkoth, nee Staub, age 85, of O'Fallon, Ill., born September 19, 1936 on the family farm near Shiloh, Ill., passed away at her home, on February 12, 2022.

Mildred grew up in Shiloh and graduated from O'Fallon Twp. High School in 1954. Her love of O'Fallon Panthers sports began as a child and continued through the years as a mother and a grandmother. She could always be spotted on the sidelines of any Panther sporting event, especially as her son Eric coached basketball and while her granddaughters Natalie and Valerie golfed with the OTHS Girls' Golf team.

While a stay-at-home mom, she was a room mother and 4-H leader. Later in life, Mildred began her career as a residential real estate agent. She was a 50-year member of the Shiloh Valley Grange, a member of PEO Chapter LJ, member of United Methodist Women, and was the current President of the Thursday Literary Club. Mildred's church family and her faith were very special to her, including her former membership at O'Fallon First United Methodist and her current membership at Shiloh United Methodist.

As the dedicated matriarch of the Meinkoth family, Mildred loved gardening, feeding the fish and birds, fishing on her lake, and hosting her large family gatherings where she served up fabulous dinners. Many people were recipients of her cards, her carefully-penned personal letters, and her hugs. In spite of her sudden passing and the void she has left, Mildred's last days on this earth were filled with personal accomplishments, fun times, good food, and O'Fallon basketball; her family is comforted knowing her life was well-lived up to the very end.

She was preceded in death by husband Willard 'Skip' Meinkoth, whom she married August 18, 1956, and preceded her in death on March 1, 2015; her parents Alfred and Martha, nee Froese, Staub; and brothers Elmer Staub and Vernon Staub (a WWII casualty).

Surviving are her sons Bradley (Sharon) Meinkoth of Lebanon, Ill., Brian (Vicki) Meinkoth of Shiloh, Ill., and B. Eric (Jennifer) Meinkoth of Lebanon, Ill.; grandchildren Sarah (John Rose) Meinkoth, Chelsey (Jeff) White, Justin (Susie Frasier) Meinkoth, Julie (Mike Devlin) Meinkoth, Natalie Meinkoth, and Valerie Meinkoth; great-grandchildren Archer and Evelyn White; and sisters-in-law Jennie Meinkoth and JoAnn Berry.
