Mitsuko Burkett, age 87, of O'Fallon, Ill., born February 22, 1935 in Tokyo, Japan, the second daughter of 13 children, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Memorial East Hospital, Shiloh, Illinois.

Mitzi was a devoted wife and homemaker and a loving mother. She loved to play BINGO at the KC Hall in O'Fallon, and to sew and crochet. She was a good cook and enjoyed making fried rice, eggrolls, and tempura for her American friends. She was multilingual, speaking Japanese, Korean, and English. Mitzi was a member the The Soka Gakkai International Buddhist community.

She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel M. Burkett, who passed away April 6, 2022. Surviving are her son Stephen Burkett; grandsons Dylan Burkett and Stryder Gallagher; sister-in-law Diane Burke; and brother-in-law Randy Burkett.

A Celebration of Life event will be held 2-5 pm, Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the O'Fallon Moose/American Legion, 109 N. Penn St., O'Fallon.

On Monday, February 27, 2023, family and friends may gather at 11 am at the funeral home. A funeral procession will depart Wolfersberger Funeral Home, at Noon, for a Graveside Service to begin at 12:45 pm, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
