Jacek Stanley "Hyacinth" Mazuchowski, age 77, of O'Fallon, born April 5, 1937 in Kenty, Poland, was granted eternal rest on Monday morning, December 15, 2014 in O'Fallon, Ill.
Father Mazuchowski joined the Little Work of Divine Providence and after studying at his order's seminary at Warsaw, Poland, he was ordained on July 7, 1963 by The Most Reverend Bronislaus Dabrowski.
He served as an associate at the novitiate and a parochial vicar in St. Jacob Parish, Warsaw, before coming to the Diocese of Belleville on December 29, 1967.
In southern Illinois, Father Mazuchowski was first assigned to St. Barbara Parish in Scheller in 1968. He became chaplain of Good Samaritan Hospital, Mt. Vernon and received his first pastorate, St. Charles Borromeo Parish, DuBois in 1976. He also served as chaplain of St. Clement Hospital and the Clementine Residence in Red Bud.
He served as administrator of Immaculate Conception in Tamaroa and St. Barbara in Scheller in 1984-1992. Since 1987 he has been part of a team ministry at St. Michael Parish in Radom and St. Barbara Parish in Scheller.
He was incardinated into the Diocese of Belleville on August 15, 1991. He was appointed Pastor of St. Barbara Parish in Scheller and Immaculate Conception in Tamaroa, 1992 to 1994. He was then appointed Pastor of St. Stephen Parish in Flora in 1994 to 2006.
Father Hyacinth Mazuchowski was named honorary Prelate to Monsignor on May 25, 2000. On July 13, 2006 Msgr. Hyacinth Mazuchowski retired to the Hincke Residence.
For the past four years, he made his home in O'Fallon with the family of Mitch and Bonnie Levin and their children Valarie, Jonathan, Alyssa, Eric, and Rachel, where he was welcomed as a loving family member. In addition to the Levin family, he is survived by his long-time friend and fellow priest Father Jerome Hibner, formerly of Zdunska Wola, Poland; his nephews Piotr (Agnieszka) Jatczak and Peter Smirow; and great nephews Philip and Franciszck Jatczak.
He was preceded in death by his parents Natalia and Zygmunt Mazuchowski, three sisters Teresa, Urseala, and Mary; and one brother in infancy.
Memorial donations may be made to the Diocesan Fund for the Education of Seminarians.
Visitation: The Reception of the body will be at 4:00 pm, Thursday, December 18, 2014 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 625 St. Nicholas Dr., O'Fallon, followed by visitation until 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:45 am, Friday, December 19, 2014 at the church.
Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Friday, December 19, 2014 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with His Excellency, The Most Reverend Edward K. Braxton, Ph.D., S.T.D., presiding; The Most Reverend Stanley G. Schlarman, D.D., as Principle Celebrant; Monsignor William J. Hitpas, homilist; and Rev. Jerome Hibner, concelebrating.
Graveside Service will be at 2:30 pm, Friday, December 19, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery, Tamaroa, Illinois.
