Nancy Kay Smith, age 69, nee Schamberger, of O'Fallon, born January 4, 1954 in Belleville, Ill., passed away July 8, 2023 at her home.

Nancy grew up in Fairview Heights and graduated from Belleville East High School in 1972. She married Michael Smith on September 15, 1973 in Fairview Heights. Nancy had been employed as a legal assistant for 26 years as staff counsel with Travelers Insurance. She enjoyed cross stitching, jigsaw puzzles, and playing games with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Betty, nee Fuchs, Schamberger; and her brother Kenneth Schamberger.

Surviving are her husband Michael P. Smith; her children Brian (Lisa, nee Welge) Smith of Portland, Ore., and Nicole Smith of O'Fallon; grandchildren Alex (Nancee) Smith and Nicholas Smith; great-grandson Silas; brother Thomas (Karen) Schamberger of Phoenix; her dear lifelong friend Nancy, nee Kennedy, Gudinas, of Fairview Heights; and her beloved pups Emma and Gracie.

Memorial donations are suggested in lieu of flowers or other gifts to either Spencer Pet Rescue or Belleville Area Humane Society.

Visitation: 4-8 pm, Monday, July 17, 2023 at St. John United Church of Christ, 10207 Lincoln Trail, Fairview Heights.

Private Funeral Services will be held at the church with Rev. Rosemary Captain and family friend Mark Burgdorf officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
