Nelson Scott Libell, Jr., age 39, of O'Fallon, born January 17, 1982, died at home on August 5, 2021.

Nelson grew up in O'Fallon and graduated from OTHS in 2000. He studied HVAC and welding at SWIC before starting his employment with Omega Steel Co., in Granite City, where he was a hard worker and loyal employee. Nelson was blessed to be "rich in friends," and he appreciated the support, care, and gifts of time and money from his friends and co-workers during his illness.

Nelson was an avid fan of St. Louis Blues Hockey, and was a supporter of Blues for Kids , a charitable trust focused on improving the health and wellness of area youth, including the fight against childhood cancer. In honor of Nelson, memorial donations are suggested to Blues for Kids (please indicate "In Celebration of Nelson Libell, Jr.) or to Nelson's GoFundMe fundraiser .

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Donald and Anne Lorraine Libell, Jacqueline Loyet, and Merril (Grace) Loyet.

Surviving are his wife and steadfast partner Rachel, nee McNamara, Libell; her son Jaxson McNamara; his father Nelson (Carolyn) Libell of St. Louis; mother Janet Libell of Shiloh; sisters Sharon (Nathan) Hatcher & daughter Beverly; Jordan (Andrew) Douglas & son Jacob; stepbrothers Alexander (Jessica) Hirbe & children Calvin, Carter, Cora; Austin Hirbe, Andrew Hirbe; and a special cousin Jason Stacey.

Visitation: The family will receive friends 4 – 8 pm, Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon, and 9 – 9:45 am, Thursday, August 12, 2021, at St. Clare Catholic Church, Shiloh, Ill.

Funeral: 10 am, Thursday, August 12, 2021, at St. Clare Catholic Church, 1411 Cross St., Shiloh, Ill., with Rev. James Deiters officiating. Burial will follow at O'Fallon City Cemetery, O'Fallon, Ill.
