Nick F. Giebels, age 79, of O'Fallon, Ill., born May 10, 1932 in Utrecht, Holland, to Johannes and Truus, nee Stevens Giebels, died April 29, 2012.

Nick grew up in Holland, the oldest of nine children, attending University of Amsterdam, and working in Europe as a CPA. He immigrated in 1956 to San Diego via New York, seeking new opportunities. He served in the US Air Force 1957-60. Following his military discharge, he found employment at a corporate accounting firm in St. Louis, Mo., where he met Jeanette Miller. Nick worked for Siegel-Robert Accounting firm, for Bank Building Corporation as head of internal auditing, and later in private practice accounting.

Nick was a member of Knights of Columbus O'Fallon Council 4239, St Clare Catholic Church, where he was active in the Seniors group, served as Eucharistic minister and past member of parish council. He had also served on O'Fallon's Homecoming committee.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanette, nee Miller, Giebels, of O'Fallon, whom he married May 18, 1963 at Immaculate Conception Church in East St. Louis; sons Richard A. (Jennifer) Giebels of Spring, Tex., Timothy P. (Gretchen) Giebels of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and grandchildren Beau, Josh, and Amanda Giebels.

Memorial donations are suggested to St. Clare School Capital Development Fund.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 3, 2012 at St. Clare Catholic Church, with Rev. James Deiters presiding.
