Obituary

Nidra L. Lurtz, nee Schwarz, age 92, lifelong resident of O'Fallon, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Eden Village in Glen Carbon, Ill. She was surrounded by her friends, her caregivers and her family.

Mrs. Lurtz was a member of O'Fallon United Church of Christ, the church's Women's Guild, and was a 59-year member O'Fallon Woman's Club, Inc. She was a member of O'Fallon Chapter 487 Order of Eastern Star. She was a graduate of O'Fallon Twp. High School and attended William Wood College in Fulton, Mo. Nidra was a great cook and she loved to bake for her neighbors, family and church; her apple pie was the best. Nidra loved flowers and a beautiful spring day. Above all else, she loved her family; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence John Lurtz, whom she married June 26, 1938, who passed away August 8, 1996; her parents Leonhard and Hazel, nee Verbeek, Schwarz, and sister LaDoris Glenn.

She is survived by her children Steven (Patricia) Lurtz of Caseyville, and Susan (Mike) Cook of O'Fallon; four grandchildren Shannon (Mari) Lurtz; Meghan (Carl) King, Alyssa (Jeremy) Kellhofer, and Aleah Cook; and five great-grandchildren Hanna, Michael, and Kate Lurtz, Isabel King, and Noah Kellhofer; and brother-in-law Clyde "Tex" Glenn.

Memorial Donations in honor of Mrs. Lurtz are suggested to the O'Fallon United Church of Christ Music Department, 206 W. Adams St., O'Fallon, IL 62269 or to Eden Village – Wetzel Wing, 400 St. Station Rd., Glen Carbon, IL 62034.

All visitation and funeral services will be private. Interment will be at O'Fallon City Cemetery, alongside her husband.
