Obituary

Norman Ralph "Red" Acker, age 83, of Shiloh, born March 19, 1934 in Belleville, Ill., passed away Monday morning, January 15, 2018 at Cedar Ridge Healthcare, Lebanon, Ill.

Norman grew up in Mascoutah and served in the Marine Corps as a young man during the Korean Conflict. He worked in the electronics industry and taught the Electronics and Building Trades Program at Mater Dei High School for several years. He was a former O'Fallon Jaycee, Shriner, and member of O.E.S. Chapter 487. Norman served as the Mayor of Shiloh from 1981 – 2001, leading the village during significant growth.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Veronica, nee Haas, Acker; and his sister Dorothy (Joe) Kelley.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Joan, nee Lambert, Acker of Shiloh; children Bradley Acker of New Baden, William (Cheryl) Acker of Shiloh, Monique (David) Seipp of Shiloh; seven grandchildren: Katie (Matt) Boyle, Kyle Acker, Beth (Kristopher) Olliff, Carolyn (Adam) Connor, Stephanie (Scott) Manning, Nathan (Anna) Seipp, and Candice Seipp; eight great-grandchildren; siblings Darlene (Norbert) Bryzinski, Jeanette (George) Smith, and Rick (Uta) Acker.

Memorial donations are suggested to Shriner's Hospital for Children.

Funeral: Graveside Service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2018 at Shiloh Valley Township Cemetery, Shiloh, Ill., with Pastor Ken Hutchens officiating.
