Norman John Dressel, age 83 of O'Fallon, born June 30, 1930 in O'Fallon, Ill., passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.
A lifelong O'Fallon resident, Norman attended the O'Fallon United Church of Christ. For over 40 years he worked for Greyhound Bus Lines as a ticket and bagger agent, and was a life member of Amalgamated Transit Union. He and his late wife, Betty, were active members of O'Fallon VFW Post 805. They enjoyed traveling and spent many winters as "Snowbirds" in Brownsville, Texas. Norman was a loving and devoted husband and father, and he valued his friendships with his close neighbors. He enjoyed traveling, watching harness horse racing, and tending to his pristine yard. Norman was a proud, yet humble, Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Jane, nee Mantle, Dressel, whom he married February 10, 1951, and who died April 14, 2009; his parents Michael and Elizabeth, nee Schierman, Dressel; his brother Edward Dressel; his sister Dorothy (and husband John) Seipp; brothers- and sisters-in-law Jean and Ben Ahring and Virgil Lysakowski.
Surviving are his daughter Beverly Dressel of O'Fallon; sisters-in-law Delores Lysakowski of O'Fallon and Joan Dressel of O'Fallon, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and other family members.
Memorials may be made to support of the Veterans' Monument Daffodil Drive, payable to O'Fallon Parks & Rec, or to the O'Fallon United Church of Christ.
Visitation: Friends may call after 12:00 pm, Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon, Ill.
Funeral: Services will begin at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 22, 2013, with Rev. Dr. Martha Thierheimer officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow at O'Fallon City Cemetery, O'Fallon, Ill.
