Norman R. Hangsleben, age 79, of O'Fallon, born February 22, 1937 in Belleville, Ill., passed away Friday morning, December 9, 2016, at his home.

Norman grew up in a large family in O'Fallon. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 and served as a fire direction controller, stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the 82 ^nd Airborne Division. A carpenter by trade, he was a member of Carpenters Local 480, Freeburg. Norman enjoyed fixing up old cars, especially Cadillacs, and spending time in Keyesport at the clubhouse.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Stella, nee Wiemann, Hangsleben; his brothers Wesley, Harold, Lester, and Fred; and sisters Virginia Scheibel-Kramer and Evelyn Bertram.

Surviving are his sons Jeffrey Hangsleben of O'Fallon; Michael Hangsleben of Minnesota; step-daughter Kristine Gibbons of Belleville; grandchildren Trent Gibbons, Nathanial Hangsleben, Jamie Gibbons, and Stephanie Williams; sisters Blanche Scheibel of O'Fallon, Edith Bland of O'Fallon, and Marlene Kabureck of Lebanon; and his former wife and friend Sandra Hangsleben.

Memorial donations are suggested to Siteman Cancer Center  and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Monday, December 12, 2016 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Funeral: 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Christy Eckert officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Shiloh Valley Township Cemetery, Shiloh, Illinois.
