Obituary

Patrick Joseph Dorsey, age 82, born November 28, 1938 in Phoenix, Arizona, died Monday, March 8, 2021 at St. Paul's Home, Belleville, Illinois, with his loving family at his side.

Patrick enlisted in the US Army in 1958, and served 28 years. A decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Dorsey was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and Meritorious Service Medal.

While serving in his first overseas assignment, spending a day of fun and relaxation at an Italian ski resort, he met the love of his life, Edda, and they married December 16, 1961. Following his military retirement, Chief Dorsey worked civil service in Logistics and Inventory Management and ended his career as Morale, Welfare & Recreation non-appropriated Fund employee, for a combined 50 years of service to his country.

A 40-plus year active member of the Scottish Rite, Mr. Dorsey was a 33rd degree Mason. He devoted much of his time supporting the good works and various causes of the Scottish Rite. He was a life member of the VFW, Past President of the Warrant Officer Association at Camp Darby, Italy; and former Chapter President of the Retiree Association. Patrick was an avid reader, history buff and was a dedicated husband and father. He spent many years as a Scout dad and a coach supporting his children's sports events.

He was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Kathryn, nee Mathias, Dorsey; his son Stephen; his brother Milton Roy "Buddy" Dorsey, and sister Sally Lou Wright.

Surviving are his wife Edda, nee Gori, Dorsey; his daughter Patricia Dorsey & her husband Antonio Maura; all of Belleville; his beloved grandchildren Christopher Maura, of Belleville, and Elisa Maura, of O'Fallon; his great-grandson Jayce; and his brother George Timothy Dorsey of Copperas Cove, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:00 pm, Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon, Ill.

A Masonic Service will begin at 6 pm, followed by a presentation by the O'Fallon VFW Post 805, and a funeral service officiated by Deacon Dennis Vander Ven.  Join us virtually via ZOOM. Chief Dorsey will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
