Pauline Louisa Gass, nee Mannz, age 99, formerly of O'Fallon, born October 3, 1916 in Troy, Illinois, died Saturday evening, January 30, 2016 at Hitz Memorial Home, Alhambra, Illinois.

Mrs. Gass grew up south of Troy in the area known as Blackjack. She married Leigh Gordon Gass and together they operated a farm north of O'Fallon. She worked alongside him, often on her own tractor. She kept her chickens, and enjoyed gardening and tending to the homestead, and often shared her desserts with friends and family. They enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Naples, Florida.

Pauline was a member of O'Fallon United Church of Christ, where she was active with the Women's Guild, Funeral Luncheon Committee, quilters, and Fifty Plus. She was a former member of O'Fallon Woman's Club, Inc., St. Clair County Farm Bureau Golden Age, and St. Clair County Homemakers.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leigh Gordon Gass in 1980; her parents Gottlieb Ludwig Mannz and Louisa Laura, nee Adelhardt, Mannz; her sister Ella (Vilray "Bill) Fulton, and brother Henry (Virginia) Mannz.

She is survived by her children Dr. Leigh "Gary" (Mary Colleen) Gass of O'Fallon, Dian (Frank) Peach of Collinsville; grandchildren Doug (Kimbra) Peach, Jeff Peach, Leigh Karl Gass, Christopher (Emily) Gass, and John Gass; great grandchildren Charlotte, Hayden, and Graham Gass; Brett (Joni) Bertram, Bree Murray; and great-great grandchildren J.T. and Hope Bertram.

Memorial donations in her memory are suggested to O'Fallon United Church of Christ.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon, and after 9:00 am, Friday at the O'Fallon United Church of Christ.

Funeral: 10:00 am, Friday, February 5, 2016, at O'Fallon United Church of Christ, with Rev. Dr. Martha Thierheimer officiating. Burial will follow at O'Fallon City Cemetery , Illinois.
