Pauline Fay Puttmann, age 88, born December 21, 1932 in Murphysboro, Ill. to Carl and Clara nee Graff, Worthen, died Sunday, December 12, 2021 at her home at Cedarhurst of Shiloh, Shiloh, Ill., with both of her daughters at her side.
Pauline grew up at Mt. Joy in Murphysboro with her sisters, Ruth and Katy. Beginning at the early age of 7, she taught Sunday school and played the piano during church and funeral services at Mt. Joy Lutheran Church.
She met her future husband, Francis (Frank) Puttmann, on a hayride during her sophomore year at Murphysboro High School. They fell madly in love and were married at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Murphysboro on August 28, 1952, enjoying 58 years of marriage.
She was an accomplished pianist and artist, a life member of the sorority Beta Sigma Phi, a Daughter of the American Revolution (Belleville Chapter), a member of The Red Hat Society, and a Brownie and Girl Scout leader during her daughters' childhood years.
Her work career began in clerical by working for her dad, Carl Worthen, who was the Superintendent of Highways in Jackson County, Ill. for 38 years. Pauline knew Gregg shorthand fluently, taking and transcribing meeting notes for the great-great grandson of Thomas Edison during her employment at McGraw-Edison while living in Elgin, Ill. She was a legal secretary and held various positions at Caterpillar while living in Peoria, Ill. After moving to Collinsville, Ill., Pauline worked for the State of Illinois, where she retired after many years of employment.
Surviving are her daughters, Karla Reeder of Rock Island, Ill., Jana (Jim) Miller of O'Fallon, Ill., grandchildren Brandon (Kelly) Reeder of Collinsville, Ill., Kolbi (Shannon) Reeder of Rock Island, Ill., Jamie (Jody) Miller of Lebanon, Ill., Shelly (Mark) Kabureck of Lebanon, Ill., great-grandchildren Avery Reeder, Maddox Reeder, Carter Reeder, Matt (Elise) Miller, Jacob (Nicole) Miller, Sean Miller, Taylor Brewer, Blake Brewer, great-great-grandson Mitchell Miller, and sisters Ruth (Jim) Fox, Katy McDonough, Lola Harty, Mary Anna Worthen.
The family would also like to gratefully acknowledge her Cedarhurst of Shiloh family, who provided an outpouring of loving care to her throughout her years in Assisted Living.
Memorial donations are requested in the form of Masses to St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, O'Fallon, Ill.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 9:00-11:00am, Thursday, December 16, 2021 at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church.
Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Thursday, at the church, with Fr. Jim Deiters presiding. Burial will follow at O'Fallon City Cemetery, O'Fallon, Ill.
