Peter Dickert MacLaughlin, Sr., age 73, of O'Fallon, born October 27, 1935 in Atlanta, Ga. passed away Thursday morning, June 11, 2009 at Belleville Memorial Hospital.

Peter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church. He retired from Honeywell/Bull as field engineer in 1989 and was currently employed with Educational Opportunity Center in St. Louis. The family would like to thank the Memorial Hospital Staff, especially those on 3 South, 4 South, and ICU for the care and compassion shown, as well as their church family for their tremendous support.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents Alexander and Elizabeth MacLaughlin, and brother Henry MacLaughlin.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sarah H. MacLaughlin; children Terri (Paul) Ahlvin, Peter "Kert" (Tammy) MacLaughlin, Jr., Susan MacLaughlin, Donna MacLaughlin, and Sheri (Michael) Engel; grandchildren Joseph Ahlvin, Kristin (Patrick) Flor, Matthew Ahlvin, Peter "Trey" MacLaughlin, III, Nathan MacLaughlin, Zachary Engel, Taylor Engel, Noah Engel, and Caleb Engel; and dear friend Ron Dormer.

In lieu of flowers and in celebration of Peter's life, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, O'Fallon, Ill., or to H.I.S. K.I.D.S. of Highland, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call at Faith Lutheran Church, 520 E. Highway 50, O'Fallon, Ill., from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2009 and again from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2009.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Bob Downs and Rev. Freda Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights.
