IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Philip E.
Kahlert
August 12, 1933 – September 13, 2021
Philip E. Kahlert, DDS
Born on August 12, 1933. Died on September 13, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his father, George N. Kahlert, his mother, Fern D. Kahlert (nee DuComb) and his brother George D. Kahlert. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Jo; his four daughters, Kate (Greg) Dolnick, Tina (Kevin) Nabb, Mirza (Martin) Thomas and Martha (Matt) Weld, eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Dr. Kahlert grew up in Carlyle, Ill. where as a young man he enjoyed working in his father's drug store. After graduation from high school he attended Washington University and the University of Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1960.
Upon graduation from dental school, he served two years in the U.S. Army Dental Corps at Ft. Sill, Okla. After his discharge from the Army, he and his wife, Mary Jo, began their search for a place to live and raise a family. They settled in O'Fallon, Ill. and in 1974, Philip became a founding member of the Spring Valley Dental Group.
As a dedicated student of his profession, Dr. Kahlert developed a successful dental practice with a loyal clientele. He was a member of the St. Clair Dental Society (past president) and the American Dental Society. He co-founded the St. Clair County Study Club and was a visiting instructor at Washington University Dental School. His continuing education in dentistry earned him Fellowship and Mastership status in the Academy of General Practice Dentistry, becoming only the second dentist in Illinois to achieve this distinction.
Philip's true passions in life were spending time with his family and gardening. A consummate family man and patriarch, he always found joy in being surrounded by his wife, his four girls and their families. As a master gardener he spent countless hours working in his gardens which were featured on several garden tours. Philip was also a charter member of the O'Fallon Garden Club.
In lieu of flowers, he requested memorial donations be made to the O'Fallon Garden Club or Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc.
