Phillip Norman Johnson, age 87, of Trenton, formerly of New Baden and O'Fallon, born in Shreveport, La., passed away at his home.

Mr. Johnson retired as Superintendent of Maintenance and Engineering at Union Electric. He raised his family in O'Fallon and moved to New Baden in 1999, and then to Trenton a few years later. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. Enlisting in 1942, he earned expert marksmanship qualification and served as a liaison pilot in the 162nd Liaison Squadron until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed tinkering with clocks. He always owned a Harley motorcycle and loved riding and restoring motocycles and old cars. He was a private pilot for many years, flying out of a small airfield near Lebanon, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his dear daughter Patricia Norma Lysakowski; his parents Norman Robert Johnson and Hazel, nee Philips, Johnson; and his brother James Robert Johnson.

Surviving are his wife, Nadine, nee Heitman, Johnson, whom he married March 3, 1944 in O'Fallon; his daughters, Gloria Ann (Sam) Peach of Bowling Green, Ky., and Mary Ellen (Jim) Voss of Barnhart, Mo.; son-in-law Terry Lysakowki of O'Fallon; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or to a charity of donor's choice.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon.

Funeral: 7:00 pm, Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the funeral home, with Albert McDaniel officiating.

Burial of cremated remains will be at 2:30 pm, Monday, December 19, 2011, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo. with military honors.
