Raymond Kimball, age 85, of O'Fallon, born February 27, 1928 in Lexington, Ky., to John and Eva, nee Kelly, Kimball, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013.
Mr. Kimball enlisted in the Navy at an early age and served during World War II. After working in commercial shipping for a short time, he re-enlisted in the Army Air Force, continuing his honorable service through the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era, training, working and instructing as a jet engine mechanic. Following his Air Force retirement, he continued as a civil service mechanic. When his kids were younger, Raymond was their little league coach. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and birdhunting.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Roberta, nee Wittenbrink, Kimball, whom he married September 22, 1950 in Piggot, Arkansas, and passed away March 9, 2010; his parents, son-in-law Carmen Strom; grandchildren John Walter Kimball and Marie Strom Williams; and great-grandchild Alex Williams; brother Willie C. Kimball and sister Kathleen Davis; nephew Billy C. Kimball and niece Dolores A. (nee Kimball) McNulty.
Surviving are his children John (Toni) Kimball of Collinsville, Robert (Mary) Kimball of Chatham, Ill., Rhonda Strom of O'Fallon, and Ronald (Carol) Kimball of Jefferson City, Mo.; and his sister Betty Joe Finney of Lexington, Ky.
Also surviving are his grandchildren Keri Haste, Jason Kimball, Christopher Kimball, Katherine Kimball, Ryan Strom, Lucas Strom, Christina (Seth) Freeman, Mallory (Mark Jesse) Ahrens; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Hunter Kimball, Tyler and Haley Haste, Sebastian and Kayleigh Williams, Madeline Freeman, Myla Ahrens, and Jaxson Kimball (due to arrive in April).
Memorials be made to American Cancer Society or Family Hospice.
Visitation: Friends may call from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the funeral home with Pastor Freda Snyder officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at O'Fallon City Cemetery, O'Fallon, Ill.
