Obituary

Richard W. Munro, age 87, of Shiloh, Ill., born June 15, 1934 in Chicago, Ill., passed away Thursday morning, February 3, 2022 at his home with his family at his side.

Richard grew up in Chicago, Ill., and was a veteran of the US Navy, retiring in 1978. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17, served in Korea and Vietnam, and was the recipient of many awards for his years of dedicated service. During his time in the military, Richard traveled around the world three times and was able to experience more than most in a lifetime. Richard was a jack of all trades and even owned a small seafood business in the Philippines. He had a strong passion for boxing and took part in this sport while in the military as well. In his spare time, he enjoyed building computers, playing his trumpet and had a strong interest in cars. He loved many different genres of music, with Jazz and Latin being his favorite. Richard was a loving, devoted and supportive husband, father and uncle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandmother Grace Munro and his many uncles and aunts.

Surviving are his wife Violeta, nee Lingad, Munro, whom he married in 1988; his daughters Monica Munro of Seattle, Wash.., Christine McClelland of Shiloh, Ill., son-in-law Cody McClelland of O'Fallon, Ill., sister Helen, sister-in-law Edith Birchfield of Shiloh, Ill., brother-in-law Harvey Birchfield of Shiloh, Ill., niece Grace Jones of Phoenix, Ariz., and her husband Ramoun Jones and their children Natalie, Ramoun Jr., Ryan, Russell and Randall.

The family will receive friends and family from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm, Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon, Ill. A Funeral Service, with Rev. Kenneth Hutchens presiding, will begin at 12:30 pm, followed by a private burial with military honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
