Rita H. Gooley, age 86, of O'Fallon, born September 3, 1921 in Syracuse, New York, passed away Monday evening at Cedar Ridge Healthcare Center, Lebanon, Ill.
Mrs. Gooley had formerly worked in banking and bookkeeping, and most recently in the Fine Jewelry Department at Famous-Barr, where she was recognized many times for her success in sales. She loved to travel with her husband, especially to Las Vegas. She enjoyed browsing garage sales and was a regular mallwalker when her health permitted. Rita was a longtime loyal parishioner at St. Clare Catholic Church, where she faithfully prayed the rosary. She will be fondly remembered as a devoted wife and mother and was very faithful to attend and support the activities of her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael M. and Mary Ellen (nee Cummings) Halloran, and two sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Philip E. Gooley of O'Fallon, whom she married November 28, 1946; her daughter Marianne & her husband, Michael Juergensmeyer of Ellisville, Missouri; and their children, Philip and Rachel; her daughter, Jeanne & her husband, Paul McCleery of O'Fallon; and her children John Elafros of O'Fallon; Erin (Keith Shovlin) Elafros of Chicago; Michael Elafros of Collinsville, and Timmy Elafros of O'Fallon.
The family is very grateful for the loving care given to Mrs. Gooley by the staff at Covenant Care of O'Fallon, and during her transition to Lebanon Care and Cedar Ridge Healthcare Center.
The family strongly encourages in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to the Pro-life Society at St. Clare Catholic Church, 1411 Cross Street, Shiloh, IL, 62269.
Visitation: Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:30 am, Thursday, March 6, 2008 at St. Clare Catholic Church.
Funeral Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am, Thursday, March 6, 2008, at St. Clare Catholic Church, with Rev. James Deiters presiding. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Illinois.
