Obituary

Robert "Bob" Gene Morton, age 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather, lifelong resident of O'Fallon and dedicated civic leader, passed away March 14, 2024 at St. Luke's Hospital, Chesterfield, Mo., following a brief illness.

Bob grew up in O'Fallon and graduated from OTHS in 1968. He furthered his education at SIUE. He joined the family business, Bob Morton Construction, as a third generation, and worked nearly 20 years in residential construction in O'Fallon. He was an agent for Equitable Ins. for a few years and a substitute teacher in Triad. Bob was an O'Fallon Alderman for two terms before being elected Mayor of O'Fallon, serving from 1993-97. He also served on the O'Fallon Planning Commission, St. Clair County Planning Commission, and the St. Clair County 911 Telecommunications Board, and was on the SWIC Board of Trustees from 2001-22. He retired in 2015 from a lengthy career with the St. Clair County Grants Department.

Bob was an active member of A.F. & A.M. Lodge 576, Ainad Shriners, O'Fallon Boosters, Blessed Savior Lutheran Church, and O'Fallon Township Democratic Club. Bob will always be remembered as a strong community supporter, a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan, a very fun and loving family man, and the best Grandpa "Bob-Bob."

Bob was preceded in death by his father Robert Eugene Morton; his mother Margaret, nee White, (George) Thompson; father and mother-in-law Charles and Jackie Stafford; grandparents Harry and Fannie Morton, and Jemima, nee Carson, White; and pets KC, Hershey, and Lambo.

Surviving are his wife Charla, nee Stafford, Morton of O'Fallon, whom he married December 9, 1978 (following a 6-month courtship); children Christy (Timothy) Spicer of Shiloh, Matthew of O'Fallon, and Mark (Lauren) of O'Fallon; grandchildren Braedon and Nolan Spicer, Cohen and Ava Morton, and Charlie, Jackson, and Claire Morton; sister Beverly "Pete" (Rick Wallace) Costello of Wentzville, Mo., and brother Randy (Shirley) Morton of Westfield, Ind.; step-mother Cindy Morton of O'Fallon, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom he loved spending time with and creating lasting memories.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, March 22, 2024 at Blessed Savior Lutheran Church, 1205 N. Lincoln, O'Fallon, and after 9 am, Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the church.

Funeral Service will be at 10 am, Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Blessed Savior Lutheran Church. Burial with Masonic rites will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
