IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Edward
Hastings
June 12, 1930 – March 27, 2018
Robert E. Hastings, age 87, of O'Fallon, Ill., born June 12, 1930 in East St. Louis, Ill., died at home March 27, 2018.
Bob was an Air Force veteran, having served as a radio operator. He worked at Nooter Boilermaker Corporation in electrical maintenance. He was a member of VFW Post 805 and St. Clare Catholic Church. He enjoyed camping and he was an avid Cardinals fan. Bob and his late wife, Catherine, were formerly active with Radio Information Services (RIS) at the Shrine in Belleville. Although blindness forced him into early retirement, it did not prevent him from leading an active and independent life. He was clever, creative, headstrong, and was a fine mentor to his children.
Mr. Hastings was preceded in death by his wife Catherine, nee Shipton, Hastings, whom he married June 21, 1952 at St. Philip Catholic Church, East St. Louis, and who died January 28, 2013; his parents George and Othella, nee Krieg, Hastings; son Daniel Hastings; baby daughter Vicky Hastings; brother Ronald Hastings and brother-in-law Roy Wolters.
Surviving are his children Karen (James) Swederska, of Washington, Mo., Jeffrey (Kelly) Hastings, of O'Fallon, James (Debbie Miller) Hastings, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Donna (Brian) Goodwin, of O'Fallon, and Denise Hastings, of Belleville. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; his sister Evelyn Wolters of Mesa, Ariz., brothers Thomas (Donna) Hastings of Pikesville, Ky., and Terry (Marsha) Hastings of Swansea, Ill., sister-in-law Joyce Hastings of Granite City, Ill., and daughter-in-law Marie.
The family strongly requests that no flowers be sent, but that instead of flowers, memorial donations be made to "Flash Estates," the residential group home where his daughter Denise resides, or to O'Fallon "VFW Post 805" for the Veterans' Relief Fund.
