Robert L. Lowery, Jr., Colonel, US Army, Retired, passed away February 12, 2024 at the age of 71, at home with his loving family surrounding him.
Robert 'Bob' was born in Phoenix, Ariz. at Luke Air Force Base on June 15, 1952. He attended Parrish High School in Selma, Alabama and the University of Southern Mississippi where he served as president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He had four years of ROTC and graduated in 1976 with an MBA degree. He entered the Army as a second lieutenant and served in Air Defense stationed in Germany. After Germany, he remained active in the Army Reserve. He was in the Army during the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and Iraqi Freedom. He retired as a Colonel in 2004. His civilian job was with Sonoco Flexible Packaging from which he retired in 2022.
While in college, he met the love of his life, Jane Calfee, and they married in 1976. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Jane, sons Russ (Rayna) and Rob. Bob also leaves behind his sister, Sheila, and two granddaughters, Madison and Taylor. Bob provided many wonderful memories for all his family, and he will be greatly missed. Everyone who knew Bob said he was smart, witty, kind, and a great conversationalist.
Bob and Jane enjoyed traveling, especially to Greece where he lived for 6 years as a child. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, running marathons and watching the Cardinals play baseball, but his real joy was his family and especially being "PawPaw" to his granddaughters. Bob loved the Lord, and wherever he lived he found ways to serve God through his church and community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Lowery and Hilda Broome Lowery.
