Robert Joseph "Bob" Pfeiffer, age 75, a lifelong resident of O'Fallon, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, May 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and the community he called home for his entire life.
Born on August 2, 1950, to Everett "Bud" and Georgia (Taylor) Pfeiffer, Bob grew up in O'Fallon and attended St. Clare Grade School. After graduating from Althoff Catholic High School, he answered his country's call to service when he was drafted into the United States Army. Bob proudly served four years on active duty during the Vietnam War era before continuing his military career in the Army Reserves. He was later reactivated during Operation Desert Storm, where he served in transportation. Deeply proud of his military service and the friendships forged along the way, Bob dedicated decades to the Army and retired from the Army Reserves after reaching the maximum allowable years of service.
Bob was equally devoted to his civilian career. For 45 years, he worked as a bus mechanic for Greyhound Bus Service, earning the respect of coworkers through his reliability, skill, and strong work ethic. If something needed fixing, Bob could usually find a way to make it work.
Outside of work, Bob found his greatest joy in simple pleasures and time spent with those he loved. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and being outdoors whenever possible. His vegetable and flower gardens were a source of pride, and many neighbors knew him for the beautiful displays he created around his home. But perhaps nothing brought him more enjoyment than transforming his yard for the seasons—especially Halloween. His elaborate decorations became a local tradition that brought smiles to children and adults alike.
Bob approached life with a practical mind and a generous heart. Famous among family and friends for his endless lists—often keeping lists to organize his other lists—he was the person everyone could count on. Beneath that organized exterior was a loving husband, a patient and devoted father, and a fun, proud grandfather whose greatest happiness came from spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett "Bud" and Georgia Pfeiffer, and by his beloved grandson, Dustin Brown.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of more than 52 years, Barbara Kay (French) Pfeiffer, whom he married on November 15, 1973, at St. Clare Catholic Church in O'Fallon; his daughter, Bobbie Brown; his son, Steven (Katie) Pfeiffer; and his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Austin (Kristen Potts) Brown and Blake Potts Brown; Zachery Brown; Caitlin (Keegan) Borum; Britney (Tyler Paugel-Wimmer) Woolever and their children, Paisley and Luca Paugel-Wimmer; Andrew (Alyssa Webb) Strolin-Pfeiffer and Dante Romo; Brandon (Alexa) Pfeiffer and their daughter, Winona Pfeiffer; and Alexia (Cole Kayser) Pfeiffer.
Bob's life was defined by service, hard work, loyalty, and love. Whether he was serving his country, helping a neighbor, tending his garden, or making memories with his family, he left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
